It is possible to save the current layer settings in a drawing (as status: layers by name) and restore them later. Saving the layer settings will allow to restore certain settings at different phases of the drawing or for printing.
The layer settings include the different layer status (e.g. active or blocked) and layer properties ( e.g. color, linetype). In a "layer by name" status, it is possible to choose the layer status and properties to be restored at a later stage. For example: it is possible to choose to restore only the setting Frozen/Thawed of a drawing's layers, ignoring all the other settings. If the "layer by name" status is restored, only the Frozen/Thawed status will be restored, while all the other settings will remain unchanged.
Using the layer status Manager, it is possible to export the "layer by name" status in a LAY file, which can be used in other drawings. The layer's "external references" status can not be exported.
When a "layer by name" status is restored, the specified and saved layer settings (status and properties) are restored by default. All the layer settings are saved in the "layer by name" status, so that it will be possible to specify several settings when recovering it. All the unselected layer settings will remain unchanged.
In addition, the current layer is kept current when saving in the "layer by name" status. If that layer is not any longer present, the current layer does not change.
Besides recovering the "layer by name" status, it is possible to import the various status previously exported in LAY file.
