When creating and modifying objects, it is possible to restrict the cursor movement to horizontal and vertical for convenience and precision

When creating or moving objects, It is possible to use the Ortho mode to restrict the cursor to the horizontal or vertical axis. Moving the cursor, the rubber-band line follows the horizontal or vertical axis (whichever is nearest the cursor).

It is convenient to use Ortho mode to draw quicker. For example, create a series of perpendicular lines by turning on the Ortho mode before starting.

It is possible to turn the Ortho mode on and off at any time while drawing and editing. The Ortho mode is ignored when entering coordinates on the command line.

For drawing or editing objects at angles that are not parallel to the horizontal or vertical axis, see Using the Radial Snap and Polar Snap.

Note:   The Ortho mode and the Polar Snap cannot be used at the same time. Turning on the Ortho mode turns off the Polar Snap.
